Beschreibung

Eribulin mesylate is a taxane derivative that inhibits the mitotic activity of microtubules by binding to tubulin. It has been shown to have significant antitumour activity in vitro, as well as in metastatic breast cancer and bowel disease. Eribulin mesylate has been evaluated in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of patients with metastatic breast cancer who had not responded to prior treatment with an anthracycline or taxane. Patients were randomly assigned to receive eribulin mesylate at 3 mg/m2 intravenously every three weeks (n=327) or placebo (n=329). Results showed that eribulin mesylate significantly extended the time before tumour progression or death compared with placebo. Eribulin is also being studied for use in patients with solid tumours who are receiving taxane treatment. There are no significant safety concerns with this drug.
