Tetra-n-hexylammonium iodide (THAI) is a chemical compound that is used as an antimicrobial agent. It has been shown to have high resistance against colorectal adenocarcinoma cells, and is effective in treating water vapor. THAI has also been shown to be an effective polymerase chain reaction (PCR) agent for the detection of antimicrobial agents in water samples. THAI is a redox active molecule with a redox potential of +1.2 V, which can be measured using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The toxicity of THAI on human serum and fetal bovine serum has been studied and found to be low. The receptor molecule for THAI has also been identified as albumin and alpha 1-acid glycoprotein.
