• Beschreibung: Vasotocin is a neuropeptide that regulates the release of vasopressin from the posterior pituitary gland. It is synthesized in the hypothalamus and transported to the posterior pituitary gland, where it is stored. Vasotocin has been shown to regulate blood pressure, electrolyte balance, and water balance in rats. Vasotocin also has a role in sexual behavior and reproduction. Vasotocin is an analog of vasopressin that has been modified at position 2 with an alanine residue. This modification prevents binding of vasotocin to vasopressin receptors on neurons. The sequence of this analog differs from vasopressin at positions 3, 4, 8, and 29.
