Tetrakis(triphenylphosphine)nickel(0) is a red-coloured compound that has been used as an electrocatalyst in the synthesis of phenanthrene. It can be obtained by reacting chlorides with trifluoroacetate salts. Tetrakis(triphenylphosphine)nickel(0) is generally a low-energy catalyst, which means it does not require high energy to react with the substrate. The reaction mechanism for tetrakis(triphenylphosphine)nickel(0) is still not fully understood, but it may involve the formation of an intermediate complex between chloride and tetrakis(triphenylphosphine)nickel(0). Tetrakis(triphenylphosphine)nickel(0) has been shown to have potent cytotoxicity against cancer cells, and its optical properties change depending on the environment. Control experiments were performed to ensure accuracy of results.
