DL-alpha-Tocopherylnicotinate is a vitamin that is used as a supplement to provide the body with alpha-tocopherol. It has been shown to have therapeutic properties for inflammatory bowel disease and other conditions with inflammation, such as autoimmune diseases. DL-alpha-Tocopherylnicotinate is used in pharmacological treatment of bowel disease and for its antioxidant effects. The physiological function of DL-alpha-Tocopherylnicotinate is not fully understood. DL-alpha-Tocopherylnicotinate can be analyzed using LC/MS/MS methods, which are specific for nicotinic acid and its metabolites. This vitamin binds to copper ions in the red blood cell membrane, which may lead to an increase in the production of prostaglandins and leukotrienes; these mediators are involved in inflammation processes.
