Tetrabutylphosphonium hydrogendifluoride is an inorganic acid that can be used as a coating. It reacts with trimerization and hydrolysis to produce hydrogen fluoride and trifluoromethanesulfonic acid. Tetrabutylphosphonium hydrogendifluoride has been shown to react with both diisocyanates and quinoline derivatives, which are reactive methylene compounds. This reaction leads to the formation of an isoquinoline compound, active methylene, and chlorine atoms.
