4H-Thieno[2,3-b]thiopyran-4-ol is an anhydrase inhibitor. It is a sulfone that has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of carbonic anhydrase. 4H-Thieno[2,3-b]thiopyran-4-ol is used in the preparation of pharmaceuticals, such as glaucoma eye drops and antibiotics. 4H-Thieno[2,3-b]thiopyran-4-ol can also be obtained from microorganisms in the environment or through bioconversion processes involving sulfones and microbial cultures.
