1,2,3-Triphenylguanidine (TPHG) is a molecule that is used as an antimicrobial agent. TPHG has been shown to be effective against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). This molecule also has the ability to inhibit the growth of fungi such as Candida albicans and Candida glabrata. TPHG can be synthesized by reacting triphenylphosphine with guanidine. It is soluble in water and has a molar mass of 183.16 g/mol. The optical properties of this compound are characterized by its absorption spectrum in the UV region at 230 nm and its fluorescence emission spectra in the visible region at 480 nm.
