• Beschreibung: 1-Tetracosanol is a fatty acid that has been shown to have antimicrobial activity. 1-Tetracosanol has been shown to be effective against the growth of bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, in vitro. The mechanism of action may involve a disruption of the bacterial membrane. 1-Tetracosanol also has hypoglycemic effects in vivo in mice and rats. It is thought that this effect is due to its ability to inhibit the enzyme acetyl coenzyme A carboxylase, which catalyzes the conversion of acetate into malonyl coenzyme A. This inhibition leads to an increase in free fatty acids, which are then used for energy production by cells with high rates of glycolysis (e.g., muscle cells). 1-Tetracosanol also inhibits the growth of human cancer cells and has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties when administered orally
