Trichloroethanol has been shown to inhibit the activity of matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) in human serum and the α1 subunit of Toll-like receptor (TLR) 4 in human monocytes. This compound has also been shown to be toxic to rat liver microsomes at high concentrations.
