2-Tridecanol is a fatty acid that is found naturally in plants and animal fats. 2-Tridecanol has been shown to have insecticidal activities against lepidoptera larvae when applied to the water surface. This compound has also been used as an analytical method for determining the presence of 2,4-dinitrophenyl glycerol esters on the surface of plant tissues. 2-Tridecanol is toxic for mammals at high concentrations and can cause irritation of the eyes, skin, and respiratory tract. It is also toxic for fish and crustaceans at low concentrations. The toxicity of 2-tridecanol may be due to its ability to hydrolyze into orthoboric acid (a strong acid), β-caryophyllene (a terpene), propionate (an organic compound), hexadecanoic acid (an organic carboxylic acid), methyl ketones (organic compounds) or chiral molecules,
