Beschreibung

Tanomastat is a histone deacetylase inhibitor that has been shown to inhibit the production of the epidermal growth factor (EGF) in human fibroblasts. It has also been shown to have nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug-like properties and may be used as a treatment for asthma, bronchiolitis obliterans, or other inflammatory diseases. Tanomastat binds to the active site of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), which are enzymes that degrade collagen and other proteins in tissues. The inhibition of MMPs by tanomastat leads to an increase in the production of type I collagen, which is an important component of healthy skin. Tanomastat also inhibits MMP-9 activity and blocks the formation of new blood vessels in solid tumors by suppressing angiogenesis.
