Produktinformation
- Dichloro-N-[2-hydroxy-1-(hydroxymethyl)-2-(3-nitrophenyl)ethyl]acetamide
Chloramphenicol is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that inhibits protein synthesis by inhibiting the 50S ribosomal subunit. It is used to treat bacterial infections, such as pneumonia and meningitis, and for preventing bacterial endocarditis in people with congenital heart disease. Chloramphenicol has been shown to be effective against most strains of bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. However, it is not active against Mycobacterium tuberculosis or Mycobacterium avium complex. Chloramphenicol is excreted in urine as its metabolites m-threo-chloramphenicol and p-nitrophenol (PNP). The metabolite PNP can be detected by spectrometric methods.
