Tofenacin is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug that belongs to the class of phenylalkanoic acid derivatives. It is used for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease, as well as other indications such as pain and fever. Tofenacin has been shown to inhibit the uptake of a substrate molecule in rat liver microsomes by binding to the CB2 receptor. This leads to an increase in the production of cytokines and chemokines, which are important for immune response. Tofenacin also has demonstrated clinical relevance for the treatment of infectious diseases, including bacterial infections and chronic schizophrenia.
