• Beschreibung: Tolfenamic acid is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug that has been shown to inhibit the MCL-1 protein, which is involved in the regulation of programmed cell death. It has been used for the treatment of bowel disease and can be given orally or rectally. Tolfenamic acid may be effective against inflammatory bowel diseases such as ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. Tolfenamic acid binds to anionic sites on the matrix of cartilage and inhibits the production of prostaglandin E2 by inhibiting cyclooxygenase activity. Tolfenamic acid has also been shown to reduce pain by inhibiting the enzyme COX-2, which is associated with inflammation. The drug also has a strong effect on human polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMN).
