Beschreibung

Tolnaftate is a synthetic, broad-spectrum antifungal drug that has been used for the treatment of various types of fungal infections. Tolnaftate is believed to work through inhibition of the synthesis of ergosterol, which is an important component in fungal cell membranes. It can be applied topically or taken orally. Tolnaftate has been shown to have a low toxicity profile and does not appear to cause any significant side effects. In vitro studies using methyl ethyl cellulose and model systems such as Saccharomyces cerevisiae have shown that tolnaftate exhibits antifungal activity against a wide variety of fungi, including Candida albicans and Cryptococcus neoformans. To determine its efficacy in vivo, a study was conducted using mice with chronic dry eye disease as an experimental model.
