• Beschreibung: Triiodothyronine is a thyroid hormone that is used for oral hypoglycaemic therapy in patients with diabetes mellitus. It has been shown to be effective in the treatment of congestive heart failure and experimental models of cardiac hypertrophy. Triiodothyronine has also been shown to have strong pharmacological effects on voltage-dependent calcium channels and integrin receptors. The clinical use of triiodothyronine is limited by its toxicity, which may be caused by its interference with the production of thyroxine or triiodothyronine, as well as its ability to alter the level of iodide in the blood.
