Beschreibung

Pantoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor that blocks the action of gastric acid, which is secreted by the stomach to digest food. It is used in the treatment of peptic ulcers and other conditions where there is excess gastric acid secretion. Pantoprazole binds to the H+/K+-ATPase enzyme at an allosteric site, inhibiting its activity and thus reducing acid production. This drug has been shown to be an effective agent for treatment of depression in some patients. The fluorine atom at position 4 makes pantoprazole resistant to degradation by carboxylesterases and can be detected using gas chromatography techniques. This drug also has some impurities that cannot be removed with purification methods, such as those containing methane sulfonate.
