Beschreibung

Torezolid is a sulfonamide drug that inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit. It is used for the treatment of infectious diseases, including streptococcus and other gram-positive species. Torezolid binds to the enzyme dihydropteroate synthase in bacterial cells and prevents the synthesis of dihydropteroic acid, which is required for DNA synthesis. Torezolid has shown to be effective against prostate cancer cells, but not against human macrophages or polymerase chain reaction assays. Torezolid has a number of pharmacokinetic properties, including a low volume of distribution and high protein binding.
