Beschreibung

Tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA) is a brominated compound that has been used to produce polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins. TBBPA is toxic to human cells, with concentrations of 1-5 mM showing cytotoxicity in 3T3-L1 preadipocytes. TBBPA also inhibits the activity of enzymes such as ATPase, phosphofructokinase, and hexokinase. The phase transition temperature for TBBPA is about -60°C, which makes it a good retardant for polystyrene foam. The toxicity of TBBPA has been studied extensively in animal models and cell cultures; however, there are currently no toxicity studies on human cells.
