Beschreibung

Temephos is a larvicide that acts by inhibiting the development of insect larvae. It is used to control mosquito populations in water-storage tanks and other containers, as well as agricultural areas and animal enclosures. Temephos is a highly effective larvicide and can be used for long-term efficacy. The optimum concentration of Temephos depends on the type of water container, mosquito species, and other factors. Temephos is specific to mosquitoes with a long-term efficacy due to the presence of a specific antibody in the larvae that reacts with an antigen on the surface of the larvae. This reaction inhibits larval development by preventing polymerase chain reaction (PCR) from occurring within cells and transcriptional regulation. Temephos also detoxifies enzymes such as acetylcholinesterase, which may be responsible for resistance to this pesticide in mosquitoes.
