Trichlorovinylsilane is a chemical compound with the formula Cl(CH2)3SiCl. It is a colorless liquid that is soluble in organic solvents. Trichlorovinylsilane has been used as an antimicrobial agent and cross-linking agent in polymer films. It forms covalent bonds to amines, hydroxyl groups, and thiols. Trichlorovinylsilane reacts with potassium dichromate to produce an antimicrobial peptide that has heparin-like properties. This compound has also been shown to be reactive with low energy, which may make it suitable for biological applications such as fibrinogen binding or coordination complex formation with magnesium salts.
