Tetraamminepalladium (II) dichloride is a palladium complex that can be synthesized through thermal expansion. It has been used to prepare microspheres, which are used for the treatment of diseases such as cancer, inflammation, and arthritis. Tetraamminepalladium (II) dichloride reacts with oxygenated aromatic hydrocarbons and chloride yields to form palladium oxide. This reaction is catalyzed by an oxidation catalyst such as zirconium oxide, and it is activated by hydrochloric acid. Tetraamminepalladium (II) dichloride's mechanism of action is not well-known but it has been shown to bind to the ryanodine receptor in cardiac myocytes.
