5,10,15,20-Tetrakis(3,5-dihydroxyphenyl)porphyrin (TPPP) is a metalloporphyrin. It has been synthesized and characterized by NMR spectroscopy. The absorption spectrum of TPPP shows an intense bathochromic shift and it has been shown to be fluorescent under irradiation with UV light. TPPP can be produced in large quantities by the reaction of pyrrole with the Grignard reagent 3,5-dihydroxybenzaldehyde. This process is catalyzed by a rhodium-containing catalyst in the presence of a base. TPPP is soluble in organic solvents such as chloroform and ethanol. It has been used as a redox indicator because it changes from purple to yellow when oxidized or reduced.
