3-Trifluoromethylanisole is a chemical compound with the molecular formula CF3CH2O. It is a colorless liquid that has been used as an intermediate in organic syntheses. 3-Trifluoromethylanisole can be obtained by reaction of 3-chloroanisole and boron trifluoride etherate in dichloromethane at room temperature or by conversion of 3,4,5-trichloroanisole with sodium hydroxide in water.
