1,2,3-Trichloropentafluoropropane is a chemical compound that consists of the elements carbon, chlorine, fluorine and hydrogen. It is created in high yield by the chlorination of pentafluoropropane with chlorine and oxygen. The reaction requires an iridium catalyst to proceed at a reasonable rate. 1,2,3-Trichloropentafluoropropane can be used as a reducing agent for aluminum and copper chlorides. This process also produces chloride as a byproduct. 1,2,3-Trichloropentafluoropropane has been used as an intermediate in the production of other chemicals such as rhodium or palladium chloride. It has also been used for dechlorination reactions in the synthesis of tetrachloroethylene from chloroform and trichloroethane.
