Beschreibung

2,2,2-Trifluoro-1-(1-naphthyl)ethanone is a chiral solvent that has been shown to be an effective antimycotic. It inhibits the growth of Trichosporon cutaneum and Cryptococcus neoformans in cell culture. 2,2,2-Trifluoro-1-(1-naphthyl)ethanone is synthesised by aminating 1-(1-naphthyl)ethanone with ammonia and hydrochloric acid in the presence of ammonium formate. The product is chiral as it contains a carbon atom in the molecule that has four different substituents: two fluorine atoms and two hydrogen atoms. This allows for the enantiomers to be separated by chromatography or crystallisation.
