Tridecafluorononanoic acid is a fluorinated organic compound that is used as a solvent. It is an analog of cinnamyl alcohol, which is a natural product derived from the essential oil of cinnamon. Tridecafluorononanoic acid is also used to develop porous materials with optimized morphology and transport properties. The use of this compound as an additive for membranes has been shown to increase the transport rate. Tridecafluorononanoic acid can be synthesized by reacting perfluoroacetic acid with an alcohol in the presence of base.
