Methylated tirilazad is a quinolone antibacterial agent that inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, which are enzymes involved in the replication of bacterial DNA. It has been shown to be effective against experimental models of oxidative injury, such as neuronal death and oxidative injury. Methylated tirilazad also has reactive properties, which may be due to its ability to form covalent bonds with proteins. This drug is used for the treatment of infectious diseases and other injuries. It may be administered intravenously or intramuscularly.
