Beschreibung

Vasopressin acetate is a polypeptide hormone that belongs to the class of vasopressin analogues and has a molecular weight of 5800 daltons. It is used in the treatment of congestive heart failure, which occurs when there is an inability to pump enough blood to meet the body's needs. Vasopressin acetate increases the water permeability of cells, thereby increasing their volume and relieving congestion. This drug also has potent antagonistic effects on receptors for vasopressin and its analogues, including estradiol benzoate. It may also have clinical relevance in treating symptoms such as anxiety, depression, and panic attacks. Vasopressin acetate is not active against wild-type strains of bacteria but can inhibit bacterial growth in experimental models with mutants that lack the enzyme cytosolic Ca2+-ATPase (CaiA).
