L-Valyl-N5-(aminocarbonyl)-N-[4-(hydroxymethyl)phenyl]-L-ornithinamide (AVA) is a histone deacetylase inhibitor that is used in the treatment of cancer. The AVA molecule has been shown to inhibit tumor growth by preventing the formation of new blood vessels that are needed for tumor growth. AVA inhibits the activity of HDACs, which are enzymes involved in histone deacetylation and gene regulation. This inhibition leads to increased rates of transcription and DNA replication, thereby inhibiting cell proliferation. In addition, AVA has been shown to have low potency against many other proteins, such as receptors and transporters. This means that it will not bind strongly with these proteins, making it less likely to cause adverse reactions or toxic effects.
