Vitamin K is a fat-soluble vitamin that is required for blood clotting. It is synthesized by bacteria in the large intestine and absorbed from the small intestine. Preparative high-performance liquid chromatography (Hplc) has been used to isolate this substance from human plasma and urine samples. The vitamin K chemiluminescence method has been used to determine the concentration of this substance in various tissues, such as brain, liver, kidney, and muscle. Vitamin K deficiency can cause anemia and also lead to bowel disease. It can be found in foods such as green leafy vegetables, soybean oil, egg yolk, butter, milk products, cheese and meat. Vitamin K may also be prescribed to prevent or treat infectious diseases such as pneumonia or tuberculosis. The physiological effects of this vitamin include energy metabolism and glucose injection into the bloodstream.br>br>Vitamin K interacts with drugs such as warfarin that are metabolized by cytochrome P450 enzymes.
