• Beschreibung: Voriconazole is an antifungal drug that inhibits the synthesis of ergosterol, a component of the fungal cell membrane. This agent also has anti-inflammatory effects and can be used to treat infections caused by Candida glabrata. Voriconazole binds to the cytoplasmic membrane, inhibiting sterol biosynthesis, which leads to cell death. It has been shown to be effective in treating infections caused by Cryptococcus neoformans and Aspergillus fumigatus and is currently being evaluated for its effectiveness against other opportunistic fungal infections such as histoplasmosis. Voriconazole is not active against bacterial or viral infections.
