Beschreibung

Z-L-Valine 4-nitrophenyl ester is a serine protease inhibitor and is used as a research tool for studying the mechanism of enzyme catalysis. It also inhibits the activity of a number of other enzymes, including phospholipase A2 and lipoxygenase. Z-L-Valine 4-nitrophenyl ester has been shown to inhibit the growth of HL60 cells, which are human leukemic cells. This compound has an optimum pH of 8.0 and can be hydrolyzed by acid. The carbonyl group in Z-L-Valine 4-nitrophenyl ester reacts with histidine residues on the enzyme to form an intermediate that undergoes stepwise reactions with water to form a new peptide bond, inhibiting protein synthesis.
