Beschreibung

Xanthohumol is a natural compound that is found in the hop plant. It has been shown to have anti-cancer effects and is currently being studied for its potential as an anti-angiogenic agent. Xanthohumol induces apoptosis by inhibiting pro-apoptotic proteins, such as Bax, Bak, and Bad. This compound also inhibits the angiogenic process by downregulating vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP9). In vivo experiments have shown that xanthohumol prevents tumor growth and reduces metastasis of MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells by preventing tumor cell viability. Xanthohumol also inhibits the degradation of detoxification enzymes, such as glutathione S-transferases (GSTs), which are important in the protection against oxidative stress induced DNA damage.
