Beschreibung

(Z)-4-Decenoic acid is a fatty acid that is structurally similar to the 4-carbon decanoic acid. It is an inorganic acid salt and has been used for the treatment of ethylmalonic aciduria, which is a rare condition caused by enzyme deficiencies in the mitochondria. (Z)-4-Decenoic acid inhibits mitochondrial enzymes such as creatine kinase, which are involved in energy metabolism. This compound also inhibits acetate extraction from mitochondria and the activity of dehydrogenases, which catalyzes reactions involving the transfer of electrons from one molecule to another. The inhibition of mitochondrial enzymes leads to decreased electron flow through oxidative phosphorylation and reduced membrane potential in the mitochondria, which can result in symptoms such as fatigue, shortness of breath, or even death.
