Beschreibung

N-(1-Naphthyl)formamide is a chemical compound that belongs to the amine family. It is used in the manufacture of formamides, which are organic compounds with a carbonyl group attached to an amine. In this process, formaldehyde and ammonia react together in the presence of hydrochloric acid or hydrosilanes to yield N-(1-naphthyl)formamide. The reaction can be initiated by hydrogen chloride gas, or by aluminium and palladium catalysts. This compound can also be prepared from formamide, which is a colorless liquid that boils at approximately 56 degrees Celsius. Formamides are polymerized in the presence of carbodiimides and formamidines, and then reacted with chloroform or methylene chloride to produce N-(1-naphthyl)formamide.
