Beschreibung

2-[(Pyridin-2-ylmethyl)-amino]-ethanol is a chemical compound that can be used to synthesize ethylene glycol. It forms a complex with ethylene, which is then converted to glycol and copolymers. The reaction can be catalyzed by copper or palladium salts, but not by silver salts. The mechanistic stepwise process has been shown using picolylamine as an eluting agent. Picolylamine is chloromethylated and dichloro to form the final product, 2-[(pyridin-2-ylmethyl)-amino]-ethanol. This chemical compound also has acidic moieties, making it an excellent solvent for reactions involving carboxylic acids.
