Hexadecanophenone is a colorless, crystalline solid that can be used as a coating material. It is insoluble in water, but soluble in organic solvents such as n-hexane and dichloromethane. Hexadecanophenone has been used to prepare microcapsules for drug delivery, which are then dispersed by the frictional forces of the human body. The hydrocarbon solvent can be removed by heating with a mixture of solvents, such as chloroform and acetone. This process is called "reduction". Hexadecanophenone also has functional groups that allow it to interact with other molecules or particles. These interactions will change depending on the type of particle and the functional group.
