Methyl 2-hydroxytetradecanoate is a natural product that is water-soluble. It is a precursor of hydrogen peroxide, which is a reactive oxygen species (ROS) that has been implicated in oxidative stress and the etiology of several diseases. Methyl 2-hydroxytetradecanoate also acts as an antioxidant by reducing ROS to H2O2, which then reacts with molecular oxygen to form water.
