4-Hydroxymethyl pendimethalin is a herbicide that can be used for control of annual and perennial grasses, sedges, and broadleaf weeds. It is applied pre-emergence or post-emergence to the soil or in containers. 4-Hydroxymethyl pendimethalin has a low risk of crop injury, but has been shown to cause colloids on the surface of plant tissue. This compound also adsorbs onto sand and silt particles in the soil.
4-Hydroxymethyl pendimethalin is an index chemical that is sampled by weed science personnel who use it to determine whether other chemicals are present in the environment. The gravitational separation of this chemical from others may be due to its high molecular weight.
The nomenclature for this compound consists of four carbon atoms, six hydrogen atoms, one oxygen atom, and two methyl groups. The molecular weight of 4-hydroxymethyl pendim
