6-(4-Methoxy-phenyl)-5-piperazin-1-ylmethyl-imidazo[2,1-b]thiazole (6MPT) is a cox-2 inhibitor that inhibits the mitochondrial membrane potential and induces mitochondrial membrane depolarization. The antimicrobial activity of 6MPT has been shown in vitro against bacteria and fungi. 6MPT has also been shown to induce epidermal growth factor production and inhibit the production of inflammatory cytokines IL-1β, IL-6, TNFα. 6MPT has demonstrated significant cytotoxicity in vitro against cancer cells and other cell lines.
