2,2-Di-n-octyl-1,3-propanediol is an acceptor in solar cells. It is used in the production of 2,2'-bithiophene and 2,2'-bipyridine dibromides. This compound has been shown to have a high electron mobility and low molecular weight. The molecule has a planar structure with two terminal hydroxyl groups that can be used for cyclic voltammetry experiments. 2,2-Di-n-octyl-1,3-propanediol absorbs light from the ultraviolet to the infrared range and can be used as a donor in multilayer solar cells. This compound also has thermal gravimetric properties that make it useful for analysis by heating. Thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) is a technique by which the mass of an object is measured as it undergoes a change in temperature.
