BIA 10-2474 is an antidepressant that is a selective inhibitor of the serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine (SND) transporters. It has been shown to have CNS depressant effects in animals at high doses. BIA 10-2474 also has been shown to inhibit the reuptake of monoamines in various tissues and organs. In animal studies, it was found to cause gastrointestinal problems such as nausea and vomiting, as well as nervous system disorders such as tremors and seizures. At high doses, BIA 10-2474 can cause symptoms of depression or mania. These symptoms are associated with changes in mood, sleep patterns, appetite, weight fluctuation, fatigue, psychomotor agitation or retardation, and other psychiatric disorders.
