Cerium (III) acetylacetonate hydrate is a compound that contains the rare-earth element cerium. It has been shown to have pro-inflammatory cytokine activity in experiments with mice and rats, which is due to its ability to activate macrophages. The activation energies of this compound have been determined using photoelectron spectroscopy on a model system consisting of aluminium. Cerium(III) acetylacetonate hydrate also has the ability to bind gadolinium, which is used for MRI contrast enhancement in medical imaging. Cerium(III) acetylacetonate hydrate can be used as a coating material for particle surfaces, such as those found in air filters and gas scrubbers, due to its transport properties.
