VZ185 has also been shown to potently inhibit cellular proliferation and induce G1 cell cycle arrest in a dose-dependent manner in mammalian cells. The heterobifunctional nature of VZ185 allows it to bind to both the bromodomain and the ubiquitin ligase domains of BRD4 simultaneously, forming a ternary complex with BRD4 and e3 ubiquitin ligase. This ternary complex formation inhibits BRD4 from binding with other proteins, thereby preventing cancer cells from proliferating and inducing apoptosis.
