Nonatriacontane is a glycol ester that has been shown to have antimicrobial activity against bacterial strains. Nonatriacontane inhibits the growth of bacteria by reacting with fatty acids and polyesters, which are essential for the cell membrane and cell wall. The antimicrobial activity of nonatriacontane is due to its ability to activate the polymerase chain reaction, a process by which DNA is copied.
