- Phosphonium, cyclopentyltriphenyl-, bromide
Cyclopentyltriphenylphosphonium bromide is a fluorinated quaternary ammonium salt that has been shown to act as an inhibitor of the α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor. It binds to the receptor and prevents activation by binding to the amino acid residues that are critical for channel opening. This compound has shown potential in treating inflammatory diseases such as insulin resistance, which is characterized by inflammation of tissues. Cyclopentyltriphenylphosphonium bromide also inhibits the release of insulin in response to glucose and amino acids.
