Palladium nitrate is a chemical compound that is used as a catalyst for chemical reactions. It provides the desired nitrate ion, which is an oxidizing agent, and palladium metal. Palladium nitrate is most commonly used as an oxidation catalyst in organic synthesis. It can be prepared by adding concentrated nitric acid to a solution of palladium chloride or by adding concentrated sulfuric acid to a solution of palladium sulfate. Palladium nitrate has been shown to have photocatalytic activity, with reactivity dependent on particle size and reaction solution. Using x-ray absorption spectroscopy, it has been determined that the reactive site on the surface of palladium nitrate particles are oxygenated.
