It has been shown to improve lung function and reduce the amount of lung damage caused by surfactant deficiency in rats. Cis-DBCL also improves endothelial function and reduces inflammation in mice with chronic pulmonary fibrosis. The antiinflammatory effect of cis-DBCL is due to its ability to inhibit the production of prostaglandin E2 and nitric oxide.
